Programming for children and adults at the Newton Public Library had one of the highest attendance rates compared to other libraries in the state according to a recent study. Public Services Librarian Becca Klein says the facility’s adult program attendance totals were among the top-three in Iowa last year.

“Newton had the second highest adult attendance, coming in second to the Des Moines Library system. We have been in the top three libraries for adult program attendance in the state since the 2020-2021 fiscal year.”

Newton Public Library Youth Services Librarian Phyllis Peter says the children’s Summer Reading Program will begin June 2nd,  and last year over 1,000 kids participated, including about 100 teenagers.

“I think every time the economy downturns a little bit, our program attendance goes up. People are looking for free things to do right here in town for their children, and they know the library has all kinds of programs and everything we offer is free.”

Klein added that they are grateful for the community enthusiasm and support for their programs throughout the year.
