An Osceola man accused of stealing items from the same rural Newton residence three times between October 2023 and May 2024 has been given a suspended five year prison term. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department charged 36-year-old Todd Jenkins in May of last year, after finding some of the stolen property in a storage unit he had access to. The criminal complaint also states Jenkins was caught on surveillance video, driving a rental van on the victim’s Lincoln Street property southeast of Newton. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office notes a stolen trailer and engine hoist collectively valued at over $8,000 were never recovered. In a negotiated plea, court records show Jenkins pled guilty to 3rd degree burglary, a class D felony. The court dismissed two other counts of that charge along with a class D felony for 2nd degree theft and an aggravated misdemeanor for driving while barred. In addition to the suspended prison term, Jasper County District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda gave Jenkins three years probation and a fine of just over $1,000. A Restitution Hearing in the case has also been set for May 6th.
