A new after school pick-up location was used for the first time Tuesday for students at Newton’s Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. Workers building an addition onto the north side of the school began changing the north driveway and closed it down. As a result of the closure., Thomas Jefferson Elementary students will be bused to the district’s administration building after school for pick-up for the rest of this school year. Superintendent Tom Messenger says a lot of thought was put into making this temporary plan as convenient and safe as possible.
“It is a change and we realize that. Habits and routines are hard to break and we appreciate everybody’s cooperation and understanding on this six week shift on how we operate there.”
The Newton Superintendent believes parents of Thomas Jefferson Elementary students will find it a lot easier dropping off and picking up kids next fall, after the school’s north driveway is redone. Hear more about this change from Messenger on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
