Norwalk picked up wins in girls golf, boys tennis and girls and boys soccer on Tuesday as six Warrior spring sports teams competed.

Girls Golf wins LHC Meet

In the first Little Hawkeye Conference Girls Golf Meet of the season, Norwalk placed first with a 366, holding off second-place Pella by 14 strokes. The tournament was held at Beaver Creek in Grimes. All six Norwalk golfers finished in the top 11. Lydia Krueger placed second with a 91 and Addie Smith also shot a 91 to place fourth. Ava Garvey and Evelyn Kinney both had rounds of 92, Mariola Torro Abad carded a 94 and Allie Soukup added a 95.

Soccer teams sweep Oskaloosa

The Class 2A sixth-ranked Norwalk girls soccer team shut out Oskaloosa 8-0 in the first game of a girl-boy varsity doubleheader in Norwalk. The Warriors led 7-0 at halftime and were paced by Tatum Miller’s two goals. Olivia Welch, Addy Wood, Pearl Brown, Claire Sandhoff, Aubrey Holcomb and Avery Drymon added one goal each. Wood also had two assists as Norwalk improved to 3-1-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Norwalk boys defeated the Indians 10-0 in a match stopped by the mercy rule in the 60th minute. Warrior senior Tavin Ferner converted all five of his shots into goals and now has 12 scores on the season. Tyden Eng added two goals while Nolan Fletcher, Jonah Sandhoff and Eli Scavo all had one. Norwalk went 3-for-3 on penalty kicks, improving to 4-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Little Hawkeye.

Tennis teams split with Eagles

The Norwalk boys tennis team improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the LHC with Tuesday’s 9-2 win at Pella Christian. The Warriors won eight matches in straight sets and got a third-set tiebreaker win from the No. 3 doubles team of Lane Juergens and Eli Mills that finished 17-15. Singles winners were Drew Lents, Corbin Oswald, Tyler Stiegelmeier, Wyatt Coburn and Carson Menke, who prevailed 7-6, 7-6. Straight set doubles winners were Oswald and Lents, Wyatt Coburn and Isaac Lors, and Ben Swim and Chase Coburn.

The Norwalk girls tennis team lost a tough 6-5 dual decision at home vs. the Eagles, falling to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Ivanna Sherstiuk, Logan Geisler and Kierdyn Stockwell won singles matches for the Warriors, with Geisler improving to 4-0. Doubles winners included Jacey Crane with Myla Brown and Anna Curran with Elena Harder.

Girls Track 5th at DC-G

The Norwalk girls track and field team placed fifth, unofficially, with 65 points at the Dallas Center-Grimes Invite. Olive DeRocher won the 1,500-meter run for the Warriors, Ava Carlson placed third in the 400 hurdles and Elle Hatlevig tied for third in the high jump. Norwalk placed first in the shuttle hurdle relay and third in the 4×200 with a season-best time.
