A Knoxville man has been arrested for Felony Eluding.

According to court records, on Wednesday the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a possible intoxicated driver southbound on Highway 5 from Attica. The caller stated the driver was a Stephen Visser in a yellow Ford Mustang. An officer observed a vehicle matching that description headed southbound on Highway 5 between the turn-offs for Highway T-17 and Highway G-71 just prior to the call being given out from dispatch as the officer was headed northbound en route to a separate call.

The officer headed back to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle and came across it in the 2400 block of Highway 5 headed northbound. The officer turned around on the vehicle and caught up to it in the 2100 block of Highway 5 to see the yellow Ford Mustang with matching plates given out by dispatch just as it took a shallow turn from Highway 5 to G-71. The officer activated his lights to initiate a traffic stop and went approximately a mile before also activating the sirens. The driver then continually failed to bring the vehicle to a stop, eventually reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour in a 55 MPH zone. The vehicle eventually came to a stop where the driver was identified as Stephen Visser, who dispatch had previously notified officers he was under a revoked license status.

Visser is charged with Eluding a Class D Felony, careless driving, driving while license is suspended or revoked and speeding which are misdemeanors.
