Construction of the new clubhouse at Newton’s Westwood Golf Course is winding down as the targeted May 15th completion date nears. Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler says some small items inside the building may need to be completed after that date, but staff should be able to start training with new software systems and kitchen equipment. Muckler adds that grading around the building should start soon as the city council moves forward with approval of amenities outside the clubhouse.

“One of the goals the council adopted at their goal setting session will be to do some of our exterior work , in terms of patio work and things that are outside the building itself.”

The Newton City Administrator says bids for the patio and outdoor shelter should go out soon. A new water main has to be installed to the new clubhouse to provide enough water flow and pressure to properly operate the sprinkler system. So until that is done, Muckler says the Westwood Clubhouse will be restricted to an occupancy of no more than 99 people, in order to meet state fire codes.
