Low bids totaling over $48,000 have been received by the City of Newton for roof work on three city buildings. A $25,088 low bid has been submitted by A1 Coatings and Roofing of Garwin, to fix a leaking metal roof over the garage shop building for the Newton Sanitary Landfill and Public Works Department. City staff says the roof is approximately 30 years old, and the water leaks are affecting the metal ceiling, ceiling insulation, and drywall. City Administrator Matt Muckler says they want to get the ceiling repaired by October 10th.
Another low bid of $22,993 has been submitted to replace two roofs at the water treatment plant. Muckler says these roofs have experienced normal wear and have reached the end of their expected life. Titan Roofing, Solar & Exteriors in Grimes is the low bidder.
Both roofing bids will go before the Newton City Council for approval at tonight’s 6 p.m. council meeting.
