Norwalk had four spring sports teams in action on Monday, highlighted by the girls golfers setting a school record at Willow Creek.

Girls Golf Places 3rd

The Warrior girls golf team placed third out of 17 schools at West Des Moines Valley’s Lamson Invite, shooting a school record 18-hole round of 348. Marshalltown won the tournament with a 320, edging Ames by two strokes. Lydia Krueger finished 12th individually for Norwalk with an 83 and Ava Garvey was next in line with a season-best 85. Allie Soukup, Addie Smith and Mariola Torro Abad each shot a 90. The team returns to action on Thursday afternoon for the Oskaloosa Invite.

Girls Track Places 2nd

The Norwalk girls track and field squad won five events and placed second in their three-team home invitational at Mineart Field. Waukee won the meet with 66 points, followed by Norwalk’s 47 and Indianola with 45. Individual Warrior gold medals were won by Grace DeRocher in the 800-meter run and Ella Johnson in the 100 hurdles. Norwalk also won the sprint medley, 4×800 and shuttle hurdle relays, including a season-best time of 10:27.56 by the 4×800 team of Grace and Olive DeRocher, Grace Wetzeler and Mia Tice. Among the Warriors’ second-place finishes, Olive DeRocher ran a personal-best time of 5:08.62 in the 1,500. Norwalk will compete in the 4×100 relay at the Drake Relays on Friday.

Boys Tennis 0-2 at Johnston

The Norwalk boys tennis team went 0-2 at Monday’s Johnston Triangular, losing 10-1 vs. the host Dragons and 7-4 to Ballard. The Warriors’ No. 2 doubles team of Corbin Oswald and Drew Lents won both of their matches and Oswald picked up the team’s only singles win of the day. Also winning in doubles play against Ballard were Lane Juergens and Eli Mills as well as Ben Swim and Carson Menke. Norwalk, now 4-3 overall, will host DC-G today at 4:15.

Girls Tennis Falls 11-0

The Norwalk girls tennis team dropped to 2-4 on the season following an 11-0 dual defeat at Waukee Northwest. The No. 1 doubles team of Ivanna Sherstiuk and Logan Geisler came the closest to winning a set for Norwalk, losing their second set 6-7 in a tiebreaker. The Warriors play at DC-G this afternoon.
