The second phase of resurfacing Jasper County Highway F-48 West from Newton to the Polk County line begins Monday, April 28th. This phase of the project covers 3.1 miles from the South Skunk River bridge just south of Interstate 80 at exit 159, to Iowa Highway 117 in Colfax. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors awarded the construction contract to InRoads LLC of Des Moines in November for $2.55 million. The company has 120 working days to complete the resurfacing. Snyder & Associates of Ankeny was hired by the Jasper County Board of Supervisors to design phase two of the project and provide construction administration services, at the recommendation of Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch.
“That will allow them to participate in the pre-construction meeting and be available to us if we have questions regarding their design during construction.”
The first phase of the resurfacing from Newton to the South Skunk River bridge was completed last August. Then last month, the Jasper County Board of Supervisors approved a federal aid agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for most of the funding for phase three, from Colfax to the Polk County line. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says the $2- million in federal funding for that 5.3 miles of resurfacing is through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program.
