Agreements approved by the Jasper County Board of Supervisors for Advanced Life Support ambulance service across the county and law enforcement in small communities are life and money savers according to Baxter Mayor Doug Bishop. Bishop, who’s also the Jasper County Treasurer, is thankful for the agreements the sheriff’s department has worked out with the City of Baxter and the Baxter School District for law enforcement coverage and a School Resource Officer.

“I think a lot of small towns are going to have to start looking at more agreements like this with sheriff organizations across the state, in order to save money and have proper law enforcement. It’s going to be a tremendous benefit for our community.”

Bishop is just as appreciative for the County’s ALS ambulance service.

“Without this program, we would not be able to operate an ambulance service for the entire West Malaka Benefited Fire District. It has saved our goose several times up there. Volunteers are short to come by.”

The Jasper County Board of Supervisors just approved an agreement to also provide ALS ambulance service in the City of Colfax.
