
Newton Girls And Boys Track And Field Teams Finished 3rd And Fifth At Tulip Time Relay
The Newton girls and boys track and field teams participated in the Tulip Time Relays in Pella Monday and finished third and fifth respectively. The Cardinal girls got wins from Audrey Muckler in the 3000m run (11:38.58), Tori White in the 100m hurdles (16.68), and the shuttle hurdle relay team of Camryn Klein, Mack Sims, Macy Lampe, and White (1:07.24). Second place finishes came from White in the high jump (4’-09”), the distance medley relay team of Lola Rivera, Jazmyn Rivera, Bella Winther, and Harper Barton (4:27.79), Winther in the 800m run (2:26.85), and Lauren Clarke in the 400m dash (1:00.47).
The Newton boys placed first in the sprint medley relay with Nick Thomason, Reilly Trease, Christian Ergenbright, and Caden Klein (1:33.05), the distance medley relay with Jace Auen, Isaiah Hansen, Ali Yahia, and Dawson Maki (3:48.65), and Alameen Shanto in the long jump (20’-09”). Hansen also finished second in the high jump (6’-0”).

Newton Boys Soccer Suffer Road Loss at Knoxville
The Newton boys soccer team lost at Knoxville 3-1 Monday. Two different Panthers scored the first two goals of the game in the 14th and 29th minutes. The Cardinals only score came from Aiden Robson on an assist from Kent Montgomery in the 35th minute. Knoxville added the game’s final goal just under three minutes later, scoring in the 38th minute to drop Newton to 3-6-2 overall on the season. Cardinals goalie Javin Dolan had eight saves, raising his total to 136 on the year, giving him a state-leading 81% save percentage. The Newton boys soccer returns to the pitch tonight at Dallas Center-Grimes at 7:30 p.m.
Newton Girls Golf Finishes Fourth In Second LHC Meet
The Newton girls golf team had two players finish in the top ten Monday at the second Little Hawkeye Conference Golf meet at Westwood Golf Course in Newton. As a team, the Cardinals placed fourth with a score of 366. Johana Cerna had the best score of the meet for Newton, shooting an 82 and tying for second, but was awarded third place on the cardback tiebreaker. Eva Pak came in 8th with a 90, while Addison Hook and Evie Main both shot 97, Kalleigh Berndt turned in a 101, and Addie Ratcliff had a 108. The Newton girls golf team will play in their second of three meets this week at 4:15 p.m. today in a triangular at Colfax.
