A Prairie City man accused of firing a bullet into the glass entry door at Prairie City’s City Hall has been sentenced to 100 days in jail. District Court Judge David Faith accepted a negotiated plea in the case against 72-year-old David William Shanks. The judge’s sentencing order also requires Shanks to undergo a psychological evaluation, and suspends an $855 fine. Shanks pleaded guilty to reckless use of a firearm causing property damage, an aggravated misdemeanor. Class B and D felony charges of Terrorism and 2nd degree criminal mischief have been dismissed.

No one was injured in the shooting, which happened just before 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 22nd, after city hall was closed. According to Prairie City Police, Shanks arrived at city hall and exited his vehicle with a pistol already in his hand. He then walked directly to the front door and fired once into it, and returned to his vehicle and drove away. He was arrested a week later.
