While the significant measles outbreak in Texas and other states has not reached Iowa, Warren County Health Services wants to remind residents about the dangers of measles and how vaccines can prevent it.

According to the Iowa Health and Human Services Department, one dose of the measles vaccine is 92-95% effective, and two doses is 97-99% effective. If anyone has been exposed to measles, initial symptoms include a fever, rash, a cough, and runny eyes, and if anyone suspects they may have measles or have been exposed to measles, they should contact either their county health department or the state health department.
