The Newton Parks and Recreation Department is holding a special event at Thirty Acre Park tomorrow night. City Parks and Recreation Specialist Liz Ventling says from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday there will be a guided hike through the park to see spring ephemerals and explore the park’s trails.

“The one thing about spring ephemerals is they only last about three to four weeks. Once the trees get all their leaves on them, they get choked out from the sun and you don’t see them again. So it’s kind of a once occurrence and a good thing for families to come out and enjoy.”

Ventling says the hike will cover about one mile. It’s free to participate, but registration is required here https://bit.ly/41xUiLC .Newton’s Thirty Acre Park is located at 3001 South 13th Avenue East.
