Two Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies hired back in October now have their Iowa reserve peace officer certification. Deputy Troy Daehler from Kellogg and Wyatt Dillon from Grinnell graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Basic Academy in Johnston last Friday. The Basic Academy is a 16-week, 600+ hour program focused on developing knowledge and skills necessary to become a police officer. Academy graduates are recognized by the State of Iowa as police officers. Deputies Daehler and Dillion started their training January 6th, and are members of the Iowa Law Enforcement Basic Academy’s 320th class.
After being hired by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, Deputies Daehler and Dillion signed Officer Training Liability Agreements. Those agreements require them to reimburse the county for a certain percentage of what their Law Enforcement Academy training cost if they leave the Sheriff’s Department within four years. Resigning within one year is 100% reimbursement, within two years is 75%, within three years is 50%, and within four years is 25%.
