Representatives from the City of Newton, the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Brett Lundberg family will gather at the new soccer mini-pitch in Newton’s Maytag Park May 14th for a ribbon cutting. The mini-pitch is named after Brett Lundberg and his family. Lundberg is the assistant Newton High School boys soccer coach who pushed to get the facility built. Newton Parks and Recreation Department Operations Superintendent Nick Cummins says the mini-pitch is an example of a great project that came about from a strong community fundraising effort and input from the city.
“That’s now open, and I can see kids using that daily and about every evening.”
The Lundberg family worked to secure approximately $150,000 in less than a year to construct the soccer mini-pitch in Maytag Park. Donations came from local residents, businesses, and organizations. The May 14th ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. is open to the public.
