Playing for the first time in eight days, the Norwalk girls soccer team easily defeated North Scott 4-1 on Friday as part of the DC-G/Urbandale Classic in Grimes. The Class 2A fifth-ranked Warriors led the 2A No. 11 Lancers 3-0 at halftime and did not allow a goal until the final five minutes.

Addy Wood scored two goals for Norwalk and Maya Butler had two assists. Avery Drymon and Taylor Schreiber both added one goal and Olivia Welch had an assist. Starting goalie Katie Liedtke had a great game, making seven saves and allowing no goals in 73 minutes.

The Warrior girls improved to 6-1-3 overall and will face 2A seventh-ranked Independence today at 11:00 a.m. at Urbandale. The Norwalk boys soccer team, meanwhile, travels to Ames for a 5:30 match. The Warriors are ranked fourth in Class 3A and the Little Cyclones are ranked third in Class 4A.

Girls Tennis rained out

The Norwalk girls tennis team was scheduled to host Urbandale on Friday, but the dual meet was rained out for the second time and cancelled.
