Aaron Fichter has stepped down as Pleasantville head cross country coach after 13 seasons.

Fichter who also is the head girls track and field coach and an assistant boys basketball coach has built a successful cross country program at Pleasantville during his time at the helm. Fichter tells KNIA/KRLS after coaching year round as he also does offseason work during the summer that it was time to get a fresh perspective into the program. Fichter says he wanted the program to be in a good spot when he left and he now feels like it’s the right time.

“I definitely feel like it’s important to try to leave when it’s in a really good spot and I feel like just the growth we’ve made, especially on that girls side where they’re right there and really close to qualifying this year with a lot of those pieces back. I feel like it’s just a good time to get someone else new in with a different perspective, new energy, and have a chance for them to really get over that hump. I think there are some really good years coming for them for sure.”

Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for updates on the vacancy.
