Residents in Newton will start paying $3.39 more per month in July, for garbage and recycling collection and disposal. Monday night the Newton City Council unanimously approved a new five-year contract with the current provider, Dodd’s Solid Waste and Recycling of Newton. Mayor Evelyn George says the agreement pushes the current residential monthly rate of $15.16, to well over $18.00 to start the new fiscal year.
“As the result of the new contract with Dodd’s, the monthly rate for individual property owners will be $18.55 per residential unit, effective July 1st, 2025.”
That monthly rate includes garbage and recycling collection, landfill and recycling tipping fees, leaf bag collection, and Christmas tree collection. There is a built-in annual rate adjustment tied to the Urban Consumer Price Index in Newton’s new five year contract with Dodd’s. The Newton Company was chosen to be the garbage and recycling provider last month, after Dodd’s and two other companies submitted proposals.
