The Pella Christian boys tennis team competed for the second time in a three day span Tuesday night and swept Chariton on the road 9-0, while the Eagles soccer teams were swept in a road doubleheader at Norwalk.

Earning their second sweep in as many nights, the Pella Christian boys tennis team gave up just 13 of the 61 games in singles play and took 24 of the 27 games in the doubles matches. The Eagles singles victories came from Aaron Meinders at #1 (8-1), Rob Schreur at #2 (8-2), Kirby Van Wyngarden at #3 (8-6), Rhett Terpstra at #4 (8-2), Evan Tschetter at #5 (8-0), and Jonathan Van Gorp at #6 (8-2). Pella Christian won all three of the doubles matches 8-1, with the wins coming from Meinders and Van Wyngarden at #1, Schreur and Terpstra at #2, and Van Gorp and Johnson Morgan at #3.

In Norwalk, the Eagles girls soccer team fell 8-0 in the opening game of the doubleheader, before the boys squad fell to the Warriors 9-2 in the nightcap. In the girls game, Pella Christian fell behind 6-0 in the first half, and Norwalk added two more second half goals to drop the Eagles to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Head coach Matt Dowie said that the score wasn’t reflective of the team’s defensive effort, and that he feels that the team is starting to grow in their understanding of playing within their system. Dowie also credited Norwalk, adding that they are a good team that works well together. Ethan Van Arenonk scored both Pella Christian goals in the boys game, with Elias Keegan recording an assist on the second, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from dropping to 8-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference. Head coach Mike Vander Molen said that his squad struggled with Norwalk’s physicality in the first half, but did a better job of handling it and competing in the second half.

The Eagles boys tennis team returns to action today at Pella High School for the Little Hawkeye Conference Tournament at 9 am, while the soccer teams are off until competing against Indianola on Friday.
