The Pella City Council approved a contract for improvements to the current soccer complex at their meeting Tuesday.

A public hearing was scheduled to review submissions for a contract to upgrade the irrigation system and restore the surface at the space near Neil Drive.

The Pella City Council included $700,000 for the project in the upcoming fiscal year budget, and the bids all came in above that amount. The project will start this summer and continue through most of 2026, with an anticipated reopening in August 2026. A contract with Iowa Sports Turf Management (Musco Sports Lighting, LLC) was accepted for just over $760,000.

The Pella City Council also received a project timeline and revised cost estimates for renovation of the Pella Community Center at their meeting. The policy and planning session detailed the latest proposal for the $7.85 million proposal that includes a wide range of facility updates including plumbing, HVAC, and electrical, repurposing of office spaces, and an upgraded elevator. The timeline includes closing the Pella Community Center by the end of this year to begin construction next spring. No formal action was taken this evening.
