Parents in Newton will be paying the same for their children’s lunches and textbooks next school year, while their students can eat breakfast for free. The Newton School Board followed the recommendation of school administrators, and approved keeping the current textbook and lunch fees for the 2025-2026 school year. Textbook fees will stay at $65 for elementary, $75 for middle school, and $85 dollars for high school students. Lunch prices will remain at $3.25 for elementary students, $3.50 at the middle school, $3.75 for high school students, and 40-cents for the reduced rate. Breakfasts for all students will be free next school year. Newton School District Food Service Supervisor Julie Miller says studies show students who eat breakfast do better in school.
“We’ve decided as a district that we want to give as many kids as possible the best start to their day by eating breakfast. So everybody can come in and get one breakfast for free every morning that we are open.”
The 2025-2026 school year in Newton will begin Monday, August 25th.
