
Newton Girls Soccer Plays To A Tie At Des Moines Hoover
The Newton girls soccer team got their third 1-1 tie of the season at Des Moines Hoover on Thursday. The Huskies scored their lone goal early in the first half before the Cardinals responded with their goal 26 minutes into the game, when Aliviah Ross found the back of the net for the thirteenth time this season off an assist by Sophia Coady. Newton had eight shots on goal and goalkeeper Addyson Cibula had six saves. The tie brought the Cardinals’ overall record to 8-5-3.
The Newton girls soccer team will end the regular season at home on Tuesday against Pella.
Newton Boys Soccer Get Season’s Fifth Win at Clarke
Scoring was hard to come by for the Newton boys soccer team at Clarke Thursday, but their lone goal was enough for a 1-0 victory. Senior Landon Bozarth found the back of the net in the game’s sixth minute off an assist by Austin Kennedy, to record his third goal of the season and Kennedy’s second assist. The Cardinals had 26 shots and nine corner kicks, but only nine shots on goal. Newton goalie Javin Doland had six saves.
The Cardinals boys soccer team is now 5-8-2 overall, and will host Pella on Tuesday.
Newton Boys Golf Takes Third At Invitational In Colfax
The Newton boys golf team placed third at the five team Colfax-Mingo Invitational on Thursday, recording a team score of 329. Jackson Price shot a 78 and placed fifth for Newton, while Peyton Rozendaal was two spots back in 7th with an 81. Ethan Pageler was 14th with an 84, Lincoln Peterson shot an 86, Lane Rozendaal had an 88, and Kayden Westlund had a 102.
The Newton boys golf team will return to action on Saturday at the Gilbert Invite in Ames.
Newton Girls Golf Places Ninth At Southeast Polk Girls Invitational
The Newton girls golf team took on several Des Moines area schools Thursday at the Southeast Polk Girls Golf Invitational, and the team took ninth with a score of 375. Johanna Cerna recorded Newton’s best score on the day with an 89, while Addie Ratcliff was two strokes back with a 91. Addison Hook and Evie Main shot a 97 and a 98 respectively. Rounding out the Cardinals lineup on the day was Kalliegh Berndt with a 101 and Eva Pak with a 105.
The Newton girls golf team next competes on Monday at the third Little Hawkeye Conference Meet at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa.
