The Knoxville Public Library is now utilizing the new Dixie’s Garden for library programming.
The new library park project edition is green space located on the west side of the library building. The project, which concluded construction late last summer, includes a garden, sidewalks, trees, greenery, a stage for library programming, picnic tables, and a memorial bench. The garden at the park is called “Dixie’s Garden” to honor Knoxville native Dixie Gebhardt, who is known for designing the Iowa Flag. The library has already started using the space for programming and plans to use it frequently during the summer reading program. Knoxville Public Library Director Ashley Miller says she expects this space to be used by the community in a variety of ways.
“It is really beneficial. We’ve noticed some kids wait there for the bus in the mornings so they have a nice little awning. Yesterday we saw some dog trainers utilizing the space so it’s just a space where anyone can come and utilize and get out in the garden.”
A ribbon cutting for Dixie’s Garden was held in October.
