Jasper County Habitat for Humanity is looking for a potential homeowner to work with on the construction of a new house in Newton later this year. Jasper County Habitat for Humanity Community Partnership Coordinator Becca Decker says they have three lots in Newton, and they want to begin building on one of them in a few months.
“We are looking to start building late this fall. But we need someone who wants to build with us before we will start building. We have lots of inquiries right now and are working through a lot of people. It’s very promising, and we feel it will happen very likely.”
Decker says Jasper County Habitat for Humanity has also started working with the Des Moines Area Community College’s Building Trades Class to extend the money they have for home preservation projects. The partnership saves the non-profit from having to pay labor costs for work the building trades class can do. Decker says the class just finished a deck and ramp project for an elderly client.
