A Newton man with several prior convictions has been given a five year prison term for third degree burglary, a class D felony. Newton Police arrested 35-year-old Dealgerron Sharmon Harris on March 23rd, after someone reported that he was taking things out of a garage on East 5th Street North. Officers arrived at the scene, and arrested Harris without incident. He entered a negotiated guilty plea and was sentenced by District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda.
Court records show Harris has several prior convictions, including another class D felony conviction for lascivious acts with a child in 2007 in Scott County. Harris’ prior offenses in Jasper County include sex offender registry violations, eluding, and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
