The Pella Community School District has told KNIA/KRLS News a bus carrying the Pella Girls Soccer team was involved in a crash on Highway 163 earlier this afternoon on their way to a game with Newton. Superintendent Greg Ebeling confirmed that all athletes involved are physically “fine.” A bus was dispatched to return the students to the school at approximately 4:45 p.m. The girls varsity contest at Newton this evening (5/13) has been cancelled, and the Dutch boys are still playing at 7 p.m.

At least one other person involved in the collision is injured from another vehicle. Pella Ambulance, Pella Fire, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash just after 4:00 this afternoon. A helicopter was traveling to the Pella Airport to transport at least one patient involved in the crash to Des Moines. The total number of injured individuals is not available at this time.

As of 5:00 p.m. on 5/13/2025, Highway 163 westbound is closed at Exit 40.
