The City of Newton is applying for a grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation to fix almost $280,000 worth of pavement issues at the city airport. City Administrator Matt Muckler says there are several areas where paving has heaved, causing problems with taxi-lanes and closing hangar doors. The City of Newton hopes to get state funding to cover 85% of the repair costs, which is about $235,000.  The grant application deadline is tomorrow. If Newton is awarded funding, Muckler says the repairs would likely be made in late spring or early summer of next year.
