The Newton boys soccer team lost to #12 Pella on Senior Night at H.A. Lynn Stadium while the Cardinal girls game against the Dutch that was supposed to open the doubleheader was postponed.

The Newton boys held the Dutch scoreless in the first half, but gave up two goals in the last 40 minutes and lost 2-0. The first half featured even play on both sides of the field, but the second half was played mostly in front of Cardinal goalie Javin Dolan. Pella’s first score came on  a header in the 51st minute, while the second score came off a corner kick in the 76th minute. The loss ended a two game winning streak for Newton, and makes their record 5-9-2 with one regular season game left to play.

The game between the Cardinal and Dutch girls was postponed after the Pella team was involved in a three-vehicle accident on their way to the stadium just after 4 p.m. The Iowa State Patrol says no members of the Pella girls soccer team were injured.

The Newton boys soccer team will wrap up the regular season in Fort Madison on Friday, while the Cardinal girls will next play in the Class 2A Regional Tournament on Friday, May 23rd.
