An EMS week open house was held Wednesday night at the Knoxville Fire Station.

A strong showing of community members came out to the event to meet local EMS personnel and help celebrate the work that first responders do. The event included tours of the station and a look inside emergency vehicles, a taco bar, kids activities and giveaways, and ambulance and fire truck demos. There was also a live side-by-side burn room demonstration to show the importance of home fire sprinklers. The side-by-side had two mock living rooms with sofas that were both lit on fire to show how effective a sprinkler can be in limiting fire damage compared with the room that did not have a sprinkler. Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman says events like these are a great opportunity to develop a relationship with EMS personnel in our community.

“The biggest thing is just meet us, establish that relationship with us because we understand that when you do have to call it’s normally the worst day of your life and sometimes just having that reassurance that you know that person or have met that person can take that stress away.”
