A Newton man arrested in November for threatening to shoot everyone at a Newton grocery store has been sentenced to two days in jail, two years of probation, and fined $680. 50-year-old Severn Paul  Rodenberg was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and complete any recommended treatment. District Court Judge David Nelmark has delayed Rodenberg’s two day jail stay until July 18th.

Newton Police said Rodenberg made the threat on November 10th, while talking to a store manager on the phone. The criminal complaint said he was upset that a family member had just been banned from the store. It also stated Rodenberg ran from Newton officers when they showed up at his home to arrest him.

The 50-year-old entered negotiated guilty pleas to 1st degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor, and a simple misdemeanor charge of interference with official acts. In return, the court dismissed an additional count of 1st degree harassment and a class D felony Threat of Terrorism charge.
