The Norwalk girls soccer team hosted a pair of top-5 ranked opponents on Friday, splitting a triangular against Lewis Central and Waverly-Shell Rock. The Class 3A seventh-ranked Warriors shut out the 3A fifth-ranked Titans 2-0 in their first match and later lost 3-1 against the 3A top-ranked Go-Hawks. Waverly-Shell Rock also blanked LC 2-0.
In their win over Lewis Central, the Warriors scored twice in the first half. Addy Wood converted her team-leading 10th goal of the season off a Tatum Miller assist and later assisted a goal by Avery Drymon. Goalie Katie Liedtke made four saves.
Norwalk started slowly against Waverly-Shell Rock and fell behind 3-0 early in the match. The Warriors played a much better second half, according to coach Andrew Messer, but could not mount a comeback. Maya Butler scored Norwalk’s lone goal – assisted by Wood – and Liedtke captured seven saves.
The Norwalk girls will take an overall record of 10-3-3 into Monday night’s regular season finale at Class 4A sixth-ranked Johnston.
