The defending Class 1A state tennis champions started their title defense on Friday in short order. Pella defeated Clarke 5-0 in the regional tennis playoffs after Clarke won earlier in the day to advance. The Dutch only dropped five sets in the singles round, which included wins from Claire Smock, Abby Hietbrink, Sydney Namminga, Reagan DeJong, and Addison Van Wyk. Kytilin Plate was at match point in her series as well. Pella is next in action Tuesday in the round of 32, and with a win, would play for the chance to qualify for the state tournament.

The Pella Girls Golf Team was victorious in a home triangular on Friday. Senior Karsyn Lyons was meet medalist with a 40, Senior Emerson Lee was runner-up medalist with a 42, and Senior Rachael Stratton had her personal best 45, stepping in to help the team. Moriah Reynolds contributed the 4th score with a 45. The Dutch shot a nine hole season best team score of 172. Pella now prepares for their regional meet scheduled for Wednesday next week at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa.

Pella’s boys soccer team fell on the road Friday night in Knoxville. The Dutch fell by a 2-0 margin at Randy Wilson Track. Pella finishes the regular season at 6-7-4.
