Boys Golf Set To Compete In District
The boys golf squad will try for another trip to the State Meet with a round at Waverly Golf and Country Club in the 3A District. The Panthers were runners-up at the sectional last week at Pine Knolls finishing just two shots out of first to Red Rock Rival Pella. Knoxville is confident it can get into position to qualify for another state meet.
Girls Soccer Starts Regionals At Chariton Tomorrow
The Girls Soccer Squad begins the regional round in class 1A tomorrow. The match was scheduled for tonight but postponed by a day due to the threat of heavy rain. The Panthers lost to the Chargers earlier in the season 2-1. While the wins have not come as plentiful as in the past, Coach Bethany Johnson says she is glad the girls drew Chariton, a team they are confident they can compete against. The winner will travel to Des Moines Christian on Wednesday.
Knoxville Baseball Set To Start This Season Tonight
The Boys of Summer along Panther Drive get the season underway on Monday with a trip to Indianola. Knoxville was very young and raw in many areas last season, but several of the players return from a 16-18 squad that improved throughout the season. While still young this season, Knoxville is more experienced at key positions and Coach Turner Devore is excited to see what they can bring to the table.
Devore: “We’re probably looking at having a better defense and try to help the younger pitcher out. We have some guys that will have to step up especially in those really busy weeks where we will need them and let’s just see how they do in the first three weeks.”
Nearly the entire pitching staff returns, led by Lincoln Norris and Kyler Gifford, who combined for 13 of Knoxville’s 16 wins last season. Also much of the batting order from last season returns. Monday is also our season opener of summer sports on 95.3 and 94.3 KNIA. Listen to the action starting with the pregame at 7:15.
