
The Norwalk boys tennis season came to an end in Class 2A Team Substate competition in Ames on Saturday. The Warriors defeated Waterloo West in a first-round dual 5-2, then lost to the host Little Cyclones 5-1 in the semifinal round.
Norwalk finished 4-2 in singles play vs. Waterloo West, with wins by Tyler Stiegelmeier in the No. 2 spot, Corbin Oswald at No. 3, Drew Lents No. 4 and Lane Juergens No. 5. All won in straight sets, including Stiegelmeier’s tiebreaker win in set one. The No. 2 doubles team of Oswald and Lents clinched the dual win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Lents picked up Norwalk’s only win against Ames, winning a hard-fought singles match 2-6, 6-4 and 10-8 in the super tiebreaker.
The Warriors finish the season with an overall record of 11-6. Varsity seniors on the squad include Braylon Stockwell, Tyler Stiegelmeier, Corbin Oswald and Drew Lents.
Monday’s Schedule
The Nowalk girls soccer team will finish regular season play on Monday night at Johnston while the baseball team opens the 2025 season at Urbandale.
The Class 2A seventh-ranked Warrior soccer girls take a record of 10-3-3 into their 7:30 match at 4A sixth-ranked Johnston. The Warrior baseball team is scheduled for a varsity doubleheader at Urbandale starting at 5:00 p.m.
