The Pella Christian boys tennis team opened the Class 1A Team Substate Tournament with a 5-3 win over Nevada on Saturday, but their season came to an end later in the day with a 5-0 loss to Waverly-Shell Rock.

In their first matchup against the Cubs, the Eagles took a commanding 4-2 lead after singles play, before closing out the match with a win in one of the three doubles matches. In singles, Aaron Meinders won 6-2, 6-1 at #1, Rob Schreur won 6-2, 6-1 at #2, while Kirby Van Wyngarden won 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 at #3 and Evan Tschetter won 7-6, 6-4. To finish off the win, Schreur and Rhett Terpstra added a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #2 doubles. The Eagles season concluded in the semifinals, as Waverly-Shell Rock picked up the 5-0 sweep to advance to the Substate Finals.

Pella Christian ends the season with a 5-6 overall record and graduates nine seniors in Clay Lauterbach, Aaron Meinders, Johnson Morgan, Rob Schreur, Rhett Terpstra, Evan Tschetter, Jonathan Van Gorp, Kirby Van Wyngarden, and Gerrit Vande Zande.
