
Competing in the Class 1A Team Regional Tournament on Tuesday, the Pella Christian girls tennis team swept Albia 5-0 in the semifinals to begin the day, but fell 5-0 to Pella in the Regional Championship match to close out the season.
The Eagles made quick work of the Lady Dees in the semifinals, needing just over an hour to complete the 5-0 sweep in singles play. Renae Van Wyk gave Pella Christian their first win with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at #5, followed by a 6-3, 6-1 victory from Kate Braafhart at #6. The Eagles moved within a point of the sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 win from Lexi Branderhorst at #4 and a 6-2, 6-3 victory from Addie Van Arendonk at #3, before Reagan De Vries advanced PC to the Regional Championship match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #1. Ava Breems also won her match at #2 singles, but the match was officially listed as a did not finish due to Pella Christian already securing the five points needed to move on in the tournament. In the Championship, the Eagles hung tough with the cross-town rival Dutch, but ultimately fell 5-0 in singles play.
The Pella Christian girls tennis team finishes the season with a 11-2 overall record and graduates three seniors in De Vries, Van Wyk, and Ali Pleima.
