The Pella City Council started the process of financing the approved Pella Rec indoor facility at their meeting Tuesday evening. Multiple resolutions dealt with the City of Pella’s intended use of $17 million of bonds loaned against the Local Option Sales and Services Tax, as approved by voters in 2022. A public hearing was scheduled in June for further approval. Other agenda items approved include scheduling a public hearing for June 17th to approve a construction contract for Lincoln Street reconstruction, an agreement with Greenwood Consulting Services to oversee the Pella Rec Center project, a construction and donation agreement with the Spirit of Pella for an ice rink chiller system, ordinances increasing both water and wastewater rates by five percent, as well as several changes to fees at Pella Fiber. A budget amendment for the current fiscal year and a rezoning application from Federated Fellowship Church were also approved following public hearings. During policy and planning following regular business, the council heard a funding request from HIRTA, discussed the Tulip Toren renovation project, and received a funding update regarding the indoor recreation and community center projects.
