The Melcher-Dallas Baseball Squad fell in its season opener on Wednesday to Colo-NESCO 14-4. The Saints actually struck first in the top of the 1st inning when Evan Schrader singled in two runs. But the Royals would score 11 unanswered runs and by the 4th inning Colo-NESCO held an 11-2 lead then added three more in the 6th to send fans home early. Reece Chiabotta, Austin Remster, Schrader, and Tucker Branson all had one hit. Remster took the loss going three innings on five hits and striking out three. Coach Pat Ferguson tells KNIA Sports he thinks this year’s team is committed to improving throughout the season.

Ferguson: “These guys come out every single day. I love how they mess with each other and joke around, but when it’s time to play and practice they screw their heads on straight and they know they’re no longer a horrible baseball team anymore.”

The Saints are off until next Wednesday when they travel to Moulton-Udell.
