Pella Christian Girls Soccer Season Ends at Albia
The Pella Christian girls soccer team had their season come to an end Wednesday night, falling on the road to Albia 2-1 in the regional quarterfinals.
The Eagles and Lady Dees played tight throughout much of the match, with the score tied at 0-0 at halftime before both teams found the scoreboard. Albia started the scoring early in the second half to take a 1-0 lead, but Pella Christian senior Esther Ford responded midway through the half with a goal on a free kick to pull the game back to a 1-1 tie. Despite the Eagles’ best efforts, the Lady Dees used the advantage of the winds at their backs to add the game’s final goal late in the second half to end Pella Christian’s season. Eagles head coach Matt Dowie said that he was incredibly proud of how his team played in the match and that the girls left everything they had on the field.
Pella Christian finishes the spring with an 8-7 overall record, and will graduate four seniors from the program in Ford, Cassidy Bos, Daiva Van Maanen, and Erica De Bruin.
Eagles Baseball Falls in Season Opener
The Pella Christian baseball team struggled in their season opener Wednesday night, falling on the road at Sigourney 19-0 in four innings. The Savages jumped ahead early in the contest and never looked back, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first inning, one more in the second, and nine more in the third before ending the game via the run-rule after the top of the fourth. Offensively, Garrett Wielard and Logan Gallaher were the lone Eagles to reach base in the loss, with each recording a walk. Defensively, Pella Christian allowed just seven hits, but issued 12 walks, five hit-by-pitches, and had two errors. The Eagles open the season with an 0-1 overall record, and will return to the diamond on Friday night to host Carlisle for a single game at 7 pm.
