It was another banner day for the Pella athletic programs as two more teams found their way to the final eight of their respective spring sports tournaments.

The Pella girls golf team placed 2nd in Oskaloosa in the Class 3A regional finals, while the Dutch boys tennis team held off Fairfield 5-1 to make it back to the state tournament again.

At Edmundson Golf Course, the Dutch girls placed 2nd out of 11 full teams, shooting a 371. Leading scores for the Pella were Karsyn Lyons (82, 4th individually), Emerson Lee (92, 7th individually), Carlyn Henry (98, 18th individually), Moriah Reynolds (99, 19th individually), and Harper Phillips (99, 19th individually). The Dutch now set their eyes on the 3A State Golf Tournament to be held at Saddleback Golf Club in Solon next week Thursday and Friday. Pella’s boys tennis team were able to knock off Fairfield before the doubles round, thanks in large part to a 17-15 tiebreaker victory for Maddox Jones at No. 3 singles. Jordan Schaffer, Brayden Van Horn, Trevin Sutton, and Corbin Van Dyke were the other singles victors. Hear from members of the Dutch tennis team on Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page. The state singles and doubles tournament will be held on May 27 and 28 in Waterloo, while the team tournament is in Iowa City on June 3rd and 4th.
