The Indianola baseball team did something they haven’t done since 2012, take a game off of the #2 Johnston Dragons Thursday, splitting a doubleheader winning game one 11-5 and falling in game two 12-5.

Andrew DeWall traveled to Johnston after competing at the Drake Blue Oval earlier in the day at the State Track and Field Meet to earn the victory on the mound for the Indians in game one, with the Indians taking a 2-0 lead in the third before the Dragons tied the score in the fourth. Indianola then exploded for a five-run fifth to lead 7-2, and scored another four in the sixth to take the commanding lead to secure the win. Dewall went 5 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts, also going 2-4 at the plate driving in two, while George Blake went 4-5 at the plate with an RBI.

Game two saw the Indians score two on an error to lead 2-0 in the top of the third, but the Dragons plated three to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The Indians scored late on a wild pitch and made an effort with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth but the deficit the Dragons built over the middle innings was too much. Asher Brueck and Dallas Harlan each had a hit in the contest.

The Indians are now 3-1 and will next play on the road at Mason City on Tuesday.
