
The Norwalk baseball team lost to Boone 6-1 in Thursday night’s Warrior season opener. The Toreadors scored two runs in the third inning and later added a three-run fifth.
Norwalk scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth when Brady Wilkening reached on a leadoff single and later scored on a Cole Wardlow fielder’s choice. Eli Benschoter went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Warriors.
Briley Purcell, the first of five Norwalk pitchers, took the loss. He allowed only one hit and one earned run in four innings while striking out five. Purcell issued three walks and hit two batters.
The Warriors travel to Waukee on Saturday for a pair of games, taking on the host Warriors at 10:00 a.m. and playing Lewis Center at noon.
