The Pella baseball team continues to pile up the runs in the first week of the season, combining for 20 of them in the doubleheader against Centerville Thursday. The Dutch defeated the Big Reds 11-1 in game one and 9-3 in game two. Anderson Schirm was 6-8 with three RBI over the two games and Isaiah Kettler was 5-8 with a triple. Nathan VandeLune earned a complete game five-inning performance with 7 Ks in game one and Landyn Bethards won game two in relief on the mound with five strikeouts in three innings. The No. 2 in 3A ranked Dutch are up to 3-0 overall.

Pella’s girls soccer team held their own against #4 in 3A Waukee, tying with the Warriors 0-0 in a makeup game. The Dutch were without Lizzie Neumann and Claire Smock, and competed step for step in the contest, according to Head Coach Mark Howard. Goalkeeper Madison Holland tallied 14 saves. Pella is next in postseason action next week.
