courts

The Newton City Council is being asked to move forward with an expected $1 million dollar upgrade to the tennis courts at Aurora Park. City staff is proposing the six current courts be reconstructed and two new courts be added, at an estimated cost of $716,000. In addition, the staff is recommending the existing lights at the tennis courts be replaced with a new system. The engineer’s cost estimate for that is just over $470,000. The Newton High School tennis teams use the public courts at Aurora Park for practice and matches.

As a bid option, the staff also wants to get quotes on adding lights to the new pickleball courts, which are adjacent to the tennis courts. Public hearings on these proposed improvements are scheduled for the next Newton City Council meeting June 2nd.
