A delay in training lifeguards due to water temperatures and weather has caused the City of Newton to push back the opening of Maytag Pool by one day. The facility is now scheduled to open for the season on Sunday, June 1st. According to city staff,  unseasonably cool weather and low water temperatures have made it difficult to complete new certification training for lifeguards. That training has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 29 through Saturday, May 31.
