The PCM soccer team will compete in a Class 1A semifinal match tonight as the baseball and softball teams will start their 2025 seasons.

The Mustang soccer team defeated Panorama in commanding fashion last Tuesday night 9-2 in their opening game of substate play thanks to six goals from sophomore Jaxson Strait. PCM will now have a tall task ahead as they will take on the West Central Valley Wildcats who are 14-0-1 on the season. West Central Valley leads the overall series between the two teams 7-2 in the Bound era with their last win coming on May 13th last year. Tonight’s match in Stuart starts at 7:00 pm. 

The Mustang baseball team will take on Williamsburg in a varsity doubleheader to open their season after their first two games scheduled last week did not take place due to weather. The PCM baseball team ended last season with a 10-13 overall record and are now under the direction of new head coach Brent Fridley. The Mustangs will take on the Raiders who are 0-1 on the young 2025 season . PCM leads the overall series 3-1 in the Bound era. Tonight’s baseball doubleheader starts at 5:00 pm. 

The Mustang softball team will open their season on the road at West Marshall in a Heart of Iowa Conference matchup. The Mustangs finished last season with a 25-5 overall record and won the conference with a 13-1 mark in league play. PCM defeated Clarinda 13-1 in their regional final game to punch their ticket to state for the first time in school history. At the state tournament the Mustangs lost their first game to Williamsburg, but came back and picked up their first state tournament win against Sumner-Fredericksburg. Head Coach Shaun Hudnut will bring back almost his entire team this year besides Lark Drake who was a key piece to the program’s success last year.

The Mustangs will return Libby Winters, Tori Lindsay, Lilian Humpal, and Addison Steenhoek who each batted over .295 and played 30 games. PCM will also return pitchers Rylee Parsons and Camden Webb who were a dangerous one-two punch last season combining for 177.3 innings of work. Webb who was an 8th grader had a 1.50 ERA and 81 strikeouts while Parsons the sophomore had a 1.21 ERA and 101 strikeouts. Tonight’s softball game in State Center starts at 7:30 pm.
