Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Director Nathan Sage has announced he is stepping down from his role. Sage sent a letter to membership and wrote that his last day is June 13th. Sage is running for U.S. Senate as a Democrat in the upcoming June 2026 primary.

Nathan’s letter:
“I wanted to personally share some news with you that is not easy to say and even harder to write. After much thought and reflection, I have made the very difficult decision to step down as Executive Director of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce. My last day will be Friday, June 13th.

This decision does not come lightly. Serving this community—you—has been one of the greatest honors of my life. From the moment I stepped into this role, I was welcomed with open arms. The trust and support I’ve received from Knoxville’s businesses and leaders has inspired me every single day. We’ve accomplished so much together—from new initiatives to bold conversations, to celebrating the heart and soul of this town.

Recently, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came my way—one that I know in my heart I would regret passing up. As hard as it is to leave this role and this community that I care so deeply about, I truly believe that pursuing this next chapter is the right path for me. I hope you can understand that this decision, while right for my future, does not take away from how grateful I am for every single moment here.

To be honest, I feel some sadness and even a little guilt in saying goodbye sooner than I had hoped. But I want you to know: this choice comes from a place of hope, not distance. Knoxville will always be part of who I am.

I will remain committed during this transition to ensure things go smoothly, and I have full confidence in the leadership and strength of this Chamber going forward. I can’t wait to see what’s next for all of you—and I’ll always be cheering Knoxville on.

Thank you again for the opportunity to serve you. I’m proud of what we’ve built together, and I’m even more excited for all that lies ahead for this amazing community.

With heartfelt appreciation and sincere gratitude,
Nathan Sage
Executive Director
Knoxville Chamber of Commerce”
