The Knoxville School Board approved contracts with Heartland AEA at their meeting Tuesday.

The board approved a three year agreement for special education services, which covers 90% of the special education funding the district received from the state. That money will go to the AEA and the district will receive all the services they received in the past. With the other 10% of special education funds, the district has entered into an operational sharing agreement with Heartland AEA for some special education director services. Knoxville Schools Business Manager Craig Mobley said the district is now going into the third year of adjusting to the overhaul of changes that were made to Area Education Agencies in the state.

“It’s just really different moving forward with how the AEA’s are being funded and how it works with school districts. We’re in year three of a different funding structure so we will see how it goes and we will evaluate it as we go and then after the next year is over we will evaluate it again and make changes where we feel we need to make changes.”
