The Pella Christian softball team was swept in their season and Little Hawkeye Conference opener at Dallas Center-Grimes Wednesday night, and the Eagles baseball team was also swept in their league-opening doubleheader by the Mustangs.

On the softball diamond in Grimes, Pella Christian dropped the first game 11-0 in four innings, before falling 11-3 in six innings in the nightcap. In the opening game, DCG jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and added another three runs in the third and five runs in the fourth to secure the win. In the second game, the Eagles struck first with a run in the top of the first inning and added another run in the third inning, but the Mustangs also scored a run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Pella Christian added their final run in the fifth inning, but DCG added four runs in the fourth and two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to complete the sweep. Amaia Agre led the Eagles offense in the first game by recording both of the team’s two hits, while Chloe Snyder also reached base twice with a pair of walks. Snyder added a double for the Eagles offense in the second game, while Rachel Kacmarynski contributed a hit, a walk, and two runs scored and Laurel Roozeboom had a hit and a run scored.

Also traveling to Grimes, the Pella Christian baseball team fell 10-0 in five innings in the first game, before dropping the second game 11-1 in five innings. The short-handed Eagles hung tough with the Mustangs early in the opener, as the game was scoreless after the first two innings, but DCG broke through with ten runs combined in the third and fourth to secure the win. The Mustangs carried that momentum into the nightcap, striking for at least one run in all four innings they batted to complete the sweep. Pella Christian’s lone run came in the top of the third inning, when Josiah Vink singled home Garrett Wielard. Brecken Ritzert and Logan Gallaher led the Eagles offense in the doubleheader, with each recording a hit and two walks between the two games.

The Pella Christian softball team opens the season at 0-2, while the baseball squad dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Both Eagles summer sports teams return to the diamond tonight to host Clarke, with baseball starting at 7 pm and softball starting at 7:15 pm.
